It is with great excitement that we announce the winners of the 2012 Brighton Chamber of Commerce Awards:

Business of the Year: Wells Fargo

Wells Fargo is an extremely integral part of our community. Everywhere and anywhere you look, you will see them involved. Not only does Wells Fargo make substantial donations to local organizations, they follow-up their support with deep-rooted community involvement. Many employees of Wells Fargo sit on boards and volunteer with various organizations throughout the community. The employees never seize to amaze with their willingness to give and follow through. The best word to describe Wells Fargo is WHOLE-HEARTED.

Small Business of the Year: Joonbugz Kid’s Boutique

For the Second Year In A Row Joonbugz Kid’s Boutique has won the prestigious AList award…this year as best Children’s Clothing Store In Colorado. Her presence on Main Street is helping raise the awareness and contribute to the economic vitality of the Brighton Downtown business community while attracting shoppers from not only Brighton but the surrounding communities which in turn helps raise the consciousness that Brighton is a destination to come to for their families needs. In addition to supporting many local organizations Joni serves on the Brighton Urban Renewal Authority Board and is extremely active in the Downtown Partnership. The enthusiasm, passion and positivity that comes from Joonbugz is absolutely incredible. The word that best describes Joonbugz is…FUN!

Citizen of the Year: Valerie Escatel

Valerie has contributed so very much to the Brighton community over the years! She currently serves as the President of the Pennock Center board of directors and the chair of their event committee. She has worked tirelessly on the annual Healing Hearts Benefit helping make it a successful fundraiser the past two years. Val also serves on a committee with the Boys & Girls Club locally and has been very involved in the planning and implementation of their special events. Val demonstrates a commitment to treating others she works with in her job and in her volunteer work with respect. Val really cares and has a strong commitment to helping others! She feels helping others is just what we all should do. The word that best describe Valerie is Commitment.

Community Organization of the Year: Brighton Youth Commission

Since their inception in 2005, The Brighton Youth Commission (BYC) has been extremely dedicated to volunteerism and philanthropy. The BYC is a municipal commission of 22 youth and 4 adults that promotes youth civic engagement and works to give the youth of Brighton a voice. With this goal they have achieved many different levels of success. One of these key approaches is through forming youth –adult partnerships. These partnerships are key in continuing to make Brighton a better community- as youth have many innovative, fresh ideas and, in many cases adults have experience in executing that youth may not have. The Brighton Youth Commission has had a profound impact on both volunteerism and philanthropy in the Brighton community. Throughout the year the BYC participates in many volunteer activities throughout the community. They have participated in Habitat for Humanity, created a Green Team that promotes recycling at Brighton’s community events, and provided child care at homebuyers fair so that parents can receive education without attending to the need of their children. One of our most recent and greatest accomplishments was our S.P.E.A.K. (Suicide Prevention Awareness and Knowledge) Week. In November 2012, Joshua Dillon, a senior at Brighton High School took his own life. The Youth Commission worked diligently to collaborate with our local high schools, businesses, non-profits, service organizations, counseling centers and citizens to have activities take place everyday within the schools. More than 150 members of the Brighton community either volunteered or walked at our S.P.E.A.K. Week Walk. Through walk registrations, sponsorships and donations raised just over $7,000. Approximately $1,000 was used to support the activities that were carried out during the week. The Brighton Youth commission voted to donate the remaining $6,000 to the Carson J. Spencer Foundation, in order to bring The FIRE Within Program to Brighton Schools. The word that best describes the Youth Commission is = Indynovative= Inspiring+dynamic+innovative.

Ambassador of the Year: MaryAnn Blood

This Year’s Ambassador of the Year has gone above and beyond to support the Brighton Chamber. She spent over 50 hours helping to paint and decorate the Brighton Chamber’s new offices and launch the community resource and visitors center. She has chaired the Ambassador committee for the past year and is always the first person to volunteer to help with anything that needs to be done. We can say with confidence that the Chamber would not be nearly as colorful (check out our lime green walls) without the support of this Ambassador.
